One of my most important supplies for tailoring is our sewing book on 1920 menswear. I’m using the waistcoat pattern as well as the pleated trousers pattern on a regular basis – for historical projects and my everyday wear.
However, our book or any other pattern is just the start. You need good suiting fabrics, shirt cloth, horsehair canvas, inlays, and special tools. I’ve put up a list of sources where I buy my supplies most of the time. Beware, that I’m European and my sources are too:
sartor.cz | historical fabrics, corset coutil, fancy brocades, heavy linen, etc. |
acornfabrics.com | huge selection of shirt fabrics |
oraghaus.com | lining fabrics, canvas, buckram, chalk sharpener, and other tools |
neheleniapatterns.com | historical patterns and corsetry supplies |
ebay.us/Z6jBqQ | eBay shop specialized on tweed |
ebay.us/c90p81 | eBay shop for suiting fabrics |
ebay.us/GWLgNd | yet another eBay shop for suiting fabrics |
ebay.us/rF94l9 | and yet another eBay shop for suiting fabrics |
